STYLING SESSIONS IN DUBAI FOR CLOUD NINE

As UK Creative ambassador for the Cloud Nine, I’ve worked alongside a small team and have designed trend inspired hair seminars for industry professionals. I recently taught out in Dubai which was an amazing experience and great to have the opportunity to see and meet hair stylists working with the brand over in the UAE.

PRO-LONG YOUR ROOTS

When your roots come through it can be gut wrenching, just when you thought you’d be able to get away with it for those extra few weeks, it hits you as soon as you look in the mirror. The thought of trying to get a last minute appointment pre-holiday can be a task in its self not to mention, you probably haven’t factored in the time to do so.

5 HAIR RULES YOU’RE PROBABLY ALREADY BREAKING

1. Play hot and cold as you dry-When blowdrying your hair it’s important that you add a dash of cold air once you’ve finished each section. This will help set the hair and will prevent over-drying and damage.

2. Drop the towel-Keeping wet strands wrapped in a towel for a half-hour as you do your make-up will just cause frizz! The roughness of the cotton forces your hair cuticles open, making them more likely to go every-which-way. Instead, squeeze out excess water as soon as you’re out of the shower, then let your hair air-dry for five or ten minutes before blowdrying.

3.  Use dry shampoo a different way – Instead of waiting until your locks need an dirt-fighting pick-me-up, apply a dab of dry shampoo to your roots immediately after you wash and dry them. Though your hair’s already clean, the barrier will stave off the debris and oil your strands will collect throughout the day before it hits. Bonus: It also gives you killer volume.

4. Give your locks a burst of cold- Before you hop out of the shower, turn the cold water on for a second and quickly rinse it through your strands. It helps seal the cuticle, adding a sleek finish to your locks.

5.Find a shampoo that lathers less– Sudsy doesn’t necessarily mean clean—sometimes, it means the opposite. Shampoos that lather too much are often overloaded with moisturizing products, which can leave build-up in your hair, making it look and feel dirtier quicker. So opt for a sulfate-free formula (Kerastase Dicipline sulfate-free shampoo is a real delight)

TREATS ON TRIAL: THE NEW KERASTASE DISCIPLINE COLLECTION

I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the new Discipline collection by leading hair care brand Kerastse a few weeks before it’s recent release, so I’ve been able to put it through it’s paces.

It takes a lot for me to be amazed by a product especially if I’m going to recommend it on my blog and to my clients. I fell head over heels for this range and the rose gold packaging helps too. For my hair, it not only made my hair feel like strands of silk but it also gave it a glistening shine, which for blonde hair thats been through the wars as much as mine has, it’s a pretty miraculous occurrence.

My hair can be weighed down quite easily and I’m always striving for movement and body, so the smoothing aspect helped yet didn’t take away the texture I naturally have. I also don’t think i’ve stopped smelling my hair since I started using it, so the 7 years of research that Kerastase have put into this have certainly paid off.

AIR DRY OVER BLOW DRY?

In the summer months the last thing you want to do is spend 20 minutes under a burning hairdryer, especially when you’re sat in the sun dreading, having to wash your hair because of the post pool prep.

Towel-drying the hair is the first step once you get out of the shower – and though it may sound obvious, taking a couple of minutes to do it properly will be worth your while in the long run.

Really try to get most of the water out, that way it should be dry by the time you get to work, plus it adds more body. Rigorous towel-drying tends to make the hair a bit knotty and can damage your hair if it’s in back nic, so lightly comb it through once if necessary, but then don’t use a comb again after that, you’re trying to work with the natural texture. when air-drying, a little bit of product is important to stop it from going fluffy. Most hair has a natural wave to it so I’d suggest a wave cream or curl cream. L’Oreal Professional’s Techni Art ‘Spiral Splendour’ is ideal, as it encourages any movement without it going crispy.

It may go against your natural instincts, but the next thing to do is to leave your hair completely alone. Just part it where you want and then leave it. The more you play around with the hair after that, the more you’ll ruin it,Once it’s fully dry you can scrunch it and even add a little more product of you want.

And finally, if the thought of natural hair fills you with pure horror, you could always apply some of the Cloud Nine Magical potion. It’s a heat protecting, detangling spray which also halves drying time.
