Shooting on location in the summertime really is a perk of my job. Not only do I get to do what I love but there’s nothing better than doing that out in the English sunshine.
This week I shot with photographer Ekua King who contributes to I.D, ASOS & RWD magazine. Along with my good friend, makeup artist Jo Hamilton (http://www.johamiltonmakeup.co.uk) who is a regular backstage at fashion week and has an enviable client list to boot.
Ekua managed to secure new faces from top London model agencies such as Premier & Elite which allowed us to create some fantastic imagery.
Here is a sneak peak of our shoot around Hampstead and Parliament Hill
I was completely blown away by the beauty and elegance of the A/W12/13 Louis Vuitton advertising campaign shot by Steven Meisel which really inspired me to create my own version of the handcrafted hats woven entirely from hair wefts. The hat in the centre was made by basket weaving hair to form a huge piece of material. I wanted the fabrics to add and create depth, so I used three different shades of wefts. The blonde hat on the right was created by twisting the hair wefts until they buckled on themselves. These were then all sewn together. I wanted to give the red braided hat a tribal twist. Braids of all different size, texture and colour were entwined together to form a strong structure. I wanted the hats to be entirely made of hair, so any sewing that was required was done using strands of hair wefts.
PHOTOLINK STUDIOS MANCHESTER
At the beginning of this year Shu Uemura Art Of Hair ran a competition to find a handful of finalist’s to take part in a professional photo shoot working with legendary fashion photographer Jack Eames.
I was fortunate enough to be named a finalist, and secured myself a place on the styling team at a shoot at Photolink Studios in Manchester back in June.
The brief was avant garde hair without the use of wigs, wefts or wire. So I stepped up to the challenge and didn’t realise how taking away those component’s would essentially make the brief much harder to follow. Thankfully my Model had great hair and a look that would suit structure.
The images will be showcased in the September and December issue’s of Tribute magazine as well as on social media and print later in the year.
